Formula 1 reporter Tobi Gruner has reported that AlphaTauri has made a significant decision to retain the duo of Yuki Tsunoda and Ricciardo for the 2024 season.
This means that talented New Zealander Liam Lawson, who has been occupying Ricciardo's seat while he recovers from his hand injury, will find himself without a seat, despite making a strong impression in his three races and even securing points in Singapore.
Lawson's impressive performances have created pressure on Red Bull's junior team to make a decision, but it appears that the unfavorable news is heading in Lawson's direction.
Gruner anticipates that the announcement of Tsunoda's contract extension will be made during this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix, which also serves as his home race.
In a Twitter post, Gruner stated, "We anticipate that Yuki Tsunoda will be officially confirmed for the 2024 season this week at Suzuka."
He concluded his tweet by noting that the "announcement regarding Ricciardo will come later."
