Steven Wilson Claims eNASCAR Championship, Donovan Strauss Controls the Race

Last season, Steven Wilson secured a spot in the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series Championship 4 but fell short of claiming the ultimate prize. However, in his return to the Championship 4 this year at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, Wilson made no mistakes, securing a second-place qualifying position and finishing there to earn the title and etch his name on the Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Trophy as an eNCCiS champion.

An elated Wilson expressed his disbelief at his achievement, saying, "It sounds unbelievable. I can't believe I'm in this situation. I have to thank Stewart-Haas Racing, Smithfield, everyone who came out to support me, all the family and friends who came out. They're unbelievable."

Wilson became the 11th different champion in eNCCiS history and the fifth consecutive first-time series champion.

Among the other three championship contenders, Tucker Minter came closest to challenging Wilson, finishing in seventh place. Nick Ottinger crossed the finish line in 13th, while Garrett Lowe dropped to 35th by the end of the night.

Minter reflected on his journey, saying, "It's crazy that this time last year, I was standing here and watching this race. To be on stage, that was the goal coming into this year. It's still been an awesome year. Just came up a little bit short."

Regarding the race itself, Donovan Strauss led all 100 laps at Homestead-Miami Speedway, securing his first career series win and becoming the 64th different winner in series history. Strauss capitalized on his first career pole position by swiftly taking the lead and maintaining it throughout a long green-flag run.

Wilson, on the other hand, gained an early advantage over his championship rivals by starting from the outside pole and settling into second place. Minter, Lowe, and Ottinger qualified 15th, 24th, and 30th, respectively, needing to make up ground on Wilson.

While Lowe and Ottinger fell behind, Minter steadily progressed up the grid, reaching seventh place before the race's first caution on lap 46 due to an incident involving Darik Bourdeau and Ryan Luza. During yellow-flag pit stops, Minter advanced to fifth, with Wilson maintaining his second position.

After another brief caution involving former series champion Casey Kirwan, the race resumed with 45 laps remaining. A couple of laps later, Minter overtook for third place, putting him just one spot behind Wilson. However, Minter was unable to mount a challenge to Wilson's rear bumper, and as the laps dwindled, Minter gradually slipped down to the back half of the top 10. Wilson remained in second place, trailing Strauss, while Minter, Ottinger, and Lowe hoped for a caution that never materialized, allowing Strauss to cruise to victory and Wilson to secure the championship.
