Ryan Vargas Describes NASCAR Euro Series Cars as "Thrilling to Handle"

Ryan Vargas, not typically known for his road course racing prowess, eagerly embraced the challenge of competing in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series during his debut weekend at the NASCAR GP Germany held at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, along with 3F Racing. Despite this being his first time racing in Europe and doing so in the top-tier EuroNASCAR PRO class, Vargas impressively secured tenth-place finishes in both races.

Vargas demonstrated his skill early on by cracking the top ten during qualifying, earning a spot in the Superpole round, where he held tenth position.

The first race coincided with his 23rd birthday, and he secured a tenth-place finish. Although post-race penalties affected the results, with Vittorio Ghirelli losing the win to Paul Jouffreau due to a non-spec air filter, Vargas managed to avoid significant issues, maintaining his top-ten standing.

Taking to social media, he commented on the unique characteristics of Euro NASCAR cars, saying, "The Euro cars are a bit more rigid and designed to handle road courses better. A combination of bias-ply tires and lower power allows you to really push the car to the limit and explore different ways to gain speed. Plus, they're still large stock cars, so they're incredibly exciting to drive."

In the second race, Vargas began in the twelfth position and spent the day battling with former EuroNASCAR 2 champion Ulysse Delsaux and Lucas Lasserre to secure a spot back in the top ten. Lasserre eventually had to retire due to a tire puncture, leaving Vargas to fend off Delsaux successfully and secure another tenth-place finish.

Fellow American Myatt Snider, who had previously competed in the EuroNASCAR 2 series in 2019 before returning to the United States, expressed his admiration for Vargas's performance: "I'm so impressed because when I raced the NASCAR Euro series, EuroPro was so stacked. So achieving a top 10 in your first outing is extraordinary."

This successful double top-ten performance marks a strong start for 3F Racing in NASCAR-sanctioned competitions. The German-based team has plans to compete in the Cup Series in the future and enlisted Vargas as their driver development director in July. Additionally, 3F Racing operates a late model program and had EuroNASCAR 2 part-timer Max Mason conduct testing at Hickory in August.

With his European racing experience in Germany behind him, Vargas will return to the United States to participate in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Talladega Superspeedway. Vargas joins a select group of Americans who have raced in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, including notable names like Myatt Snider, Andre Castro, Jennifer Jo Cobb, Rick Crawford, Jeffrey Earnhardt, Eric Filgueiras, Brandon Gdovic, Ben Kennedy, Bobby Labonte, Julia Landauer, Kevin O'Connell, Dale Quarterley, Nick Strickler, and Giles Thornton.
