F1 Celebrity Responds to Being Excluded from Singapore GP Grid Walk by Martin Brundle on Sky Sports Live Coverage
Oscar Piastri publicly responded after Martin Brundle interrupted his interview with a McLaren driver just moments before the Singapore Grand Prix began.
During his customary pre-race grid walk, Brundle approached Piastri for a brief chat as he was about to get into his car. Brundle began by saying, "Oscar, tough luck in qualifying, you've got some work to do in the race."
Piastri was willing to engage in conversation, replying, "Yeah, we'll do our best and see if we can get..." However, he was abruptly cut off as Brundle shifted his attention to another driver.
"Esteban! Esteban! Happy birthday!" Brundle called out to Esteban Ocon, successfully getting his attention. Ocon expressed gratitude for the birthday wishes.
When Brundle eventually turned back to where Piastri had been standing, he had walked away. Piastri later shared his lighthearted response on social media, teasing the Sky Sports veteran.
"Shall we finish that interview in Suzuka?" Piastri wrote, accompanied by a winking face emoji, indicating he found the situation amusing. He further added, "For what it's worth, I'd have done the same. Happy birthday Ocon Esteban."
Brundle replied, acknowledging the incident, "Um, yes, sorry about that Oscar, wasn't my finest grid walk moment in 26 years. Just wanted to wish Esteban happy birthday as he strode past, but you were DRS open and full battery and quite rightly dropped me like an Aussie Rules rookie."
Despite the humorous interruption, Piastri performed well in the race, quickly climbing to 14th on the first lap and avoiding any major incidents to finish in seventh place. After the race, visibly fatigued by one of the most physically demanding races on the F1 calendar, the rookie driver expressed his satisfaction, saying, "Starting 17th in Singapore is never the most exciting prospect, so to come away with P7 after all that is a fantastic result. I don't think we could have done more than that, so I'm very happy. A great result for the team as well, great points."
