Lawson Earns Maiden F1 Points but Maintains Critical Perspective: 'Evaluating the Situation'
While the Singapore Grand Prix revolved around Carlos Sainz's dominant victory, Liam Lawson managed to secure his first points representing AlphaTauri in the background. Lawson, who stepped in for Daniel Ricciardo due to the latter's injury, expressed a critical perspective despite his points finish.
"Today was fantastic," remarked the New Zealander when speaking with reporters after the Singapore Grand Prix. "I’m happy with the race, and I definitely gave it everything because I think we maximized the car’s performance," Lawson stated.
However, Lawson remains critical, especially regarding his race starts. He mentioned, "I need to look at the start because it’s been two weekends in a row that I lost positions, so it makes our lives harder. We stayed out of trouble for the rest of the race and kept it clean." He also highlighted the physical demands of the race when struggling for pace, emphasizing the need to extract every ounce of performance from the car.
Before the Singapore race weekend, AlphaTauri had more drivers than points this season. Nyck de Vries was released from the team prior to the Hungarian GP due to underperformance, with Ricciardo taking his place. Yuki Tsunoda has been the sole consistent driver for the team throughout the season but failed to score any points in Singapore.
