RICCIARDO: Difficulties in the 2024 F1 Season are Unlike the McLaren Circumstances.

Daniel Ricciardo states that his current struggle to match the impressive performance of his RB Formula 1 teammate Yuki Tsunoda differs from the situation he experienced at McLaren.

McLaren decided not to renew Daniel Ricciardo's contract at the conclusion of 2022 due to his struggles in adapting to the car over two challenging seasons, during which he fell behind Lando Norris.

In the ongoing 2024 season, Ricciardo has been outshined by his RB teammate, Yuki Tsunoda, who has reached Q3 twice and secured a seventh-place finish in Australia.

Nonetheless, Ricciardo emphasizes that his situation at RB is significantly better than it was at McLaren, and he believes he is close to finding the right balance.

When questioned by Motorsport.com in Japan about his circumstances, Ricciardo explained, "We're working on enhancing our downforce and rear grip, as always. To be frank, I faced some difficulties with high-speed corners in Melbourne and Saudi Arabia.

"In Saudi Arabia, we identified that we were lacking a bit in this aspect, which provided us with some clarity. However, the issue persisted in Melbourne, particularly in Turns 9 and 10, where I lagged behind Yuki.

"I believe we should focus our setup adjustments in these areas to boost my confidence. Regarding low and medium-speed corners, we are almost at the desired level."

"It's different from my experience at McLaren. Therefore, I believe it's crucial to continue collaborating closely with my engineers and refrain from being influenced by external suggestions or advice."

"Undoubtedly, I would have preferred better results in the initial races, and I'm not satisfied with it. However, it's crucial for us to stay focused and not deviate from our path."

Ricciardo acknowledges that any pressure he feels in his first full season back in F1 primarily stems from himself, particularly after his mid-season return in 2023 to replace Nyck de Vries.

"I would say yes," he responded when asked about feeling pressure. "But I feel it's more self-imposed than external. I'm sure there's external pressure as well.

"However, coming into this season after a full pre-season and a productive winter, I've put in extensive training and feel well-prepared. So based on my experience, I anticipated starting the season at peak performance.

"Yet, it hasn't quite materialized yet, and we're only three races in. I'm confident that I don't need to alter anything; success will come. It's just a matter of fine-tuning a few aspects.

"I believe we're on the cusp of a breakthrough. Even in Melbourne, while the outcome might have seemed disappointing without points and struggles in qualifying, the race performance showed promise. We've identified positives to build on; it's just a matter of putting everything together, and I'm committed to doing so."

"I made a commitment to it in Melbourne, but unfortunately, I didn't achieve it. However, I'm determined to fulfill it this weekend."

Ricciardo has previously hinted at potential issues with his car, and he confirmed that the team has made changes to certain components in an effort to identify any problems.

"Since Saudi Arabia, we've made some adjustments," he explained. "And for China, we're planning to make further modifications.

"We're ensuring that everything is functioning optimally and there are no underlying issues. It's crucial for our peace of mind, given the extensive exploration we've conducted.

"Last year, I entered the scene and was immediately competitive in Budapest. However, this year, despite better preparation and familiarity with the car and team, I feel slightly behind.

"Hence, we're meticulously checking to ensure we're not overlooking any factors beyond our control at this stage."
