Vettel is poised to conduct a trial run with the Porsche 963 Hypercar, citing his keen interest in endurance events as the driving force behind his decision.

Sebastian Vettel is slated to take part in a 36-hour endurance test for Porsche Penske Motorsport in Spain this week, where he will pilot the Porsche 963 Hypercar. The four-time Formula 1 world champion retired from the sport at the conclusion of the 2022 season after a career spanning 15 years. Ahead of the test at Aragon, Vettel has undergone simulator training with the FIA World Endurance Championship team.

The German driver has already acquainted himself with the hybrid prototype, participating in initial laps as the Porsche 963 was unveiled at the company's R&D Centre in Weissach. The upcoming test at the Motorland Aragon circuit will mark Vettel's maiden experience driving a Hypercar.

Vettel expressed his intrigue for endurance racing, stating that his "curiosity" motivated his involvement in the test. However, he clarified that he currently has no definitive plans beyond this endeavor.

"I'm eager to test the Porsche 963," Vettel remarked. "I had the opportunity to familiarize myself with the car during its rollout in Weissach."

"I've been a keen follower of various racing series, and my interest in endurance events prompted me to take the plunge. Now, I'm eagerly anticipating the extended test session in Aragon and relishing the opportunity to get behind the wheel."

"Adapting will certainly require some time and effort, but the team has been incredibly supportive and accommodating. This marks a fresh chapter for me, presenting new challenges and experiences. As for what lies ahead, it's uncertain for now – there are no concrete plans beyond this."

Vettel has been getting ready for the test by meeting with the operations crew at the Porsche Penske Motorsport facility in Mannheim earlier this March. Following that, he engaged in a thorough simulator session the next day, during which he also acquainted himself with the features and control systems of the Le Mans prototype.

Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President of Porsche Motorsport, expressed his satisfaction regarding Vettel's participation in the test: "We're pleased that Sebastian Vettel has shown interest in our Porsche 963. It was a given for us to enthusiastically accommodate his request for a test opportunity, ensuring he receives thorough preparation and ample time behind the wheel of our hybrid prototype. Vettel will be accompanied at the test, which serves as preparation for the renowned 24 Hours of Le Mans event in June, by six factory drivers, including Andre Lotterer, who made a singular appearance in F1 racing for Caterham at the 2014 Belgian Grand Prix.

Throughout his Formula 1 tenure, Vettel emerged as one of the most accomplished drivers in the sport's history, securing four world championships, 53 race victories, and 57 pole positions.
