Max Verstappen's future in Formula 1 will be determined by performance rather than political factors.

There have been rare occasions in Formula 1 history when a competitive driver has opted to leave a fast car. Such decisions have typically been accompanied by underlying tensions within the team. However, when you're leading races, staying motivated is likely easier than when you're stuck in the middle of the pack.

Considering Verstappen's previous suggestions about his long-term future not being in F1, a move away from the front of the grid could accelerate his departure from the sport.

Ultimately, driver moves often come down to one crucial factor – speed. While Hamilton's potential move to Ferrari aligns with a long-term dream, it's also influenced by his belief that Ferrari will provide a faster car. Similarly, Alonso's interest in Mercedes stems from the possibility of them surpassing Aston Martin.

Currently, Mercedes and McLaren are tied as the third-best teams on the grid, with Ferrari slightly ahead and Red Bull further ahead. The upcoming 2026 engine changes could potentially reset the competitive landscape, but Red Bull is expected to maintain an advantage heading into that season.

Elite drivers like Verstappen seek the best tools to excel in their profession, making the idea of him switching from Red Bull to Mercedes seem illogical at the moment.

Fundamentally, both teams are at different stages of their development. Red Bull has established itself as the ultimate winning machine, capable of quickly finding the right setup. On the other hand, Mercedes has struggled with car setups, with previous models also facing challenges in finding the ideal performance window.

There's also a political aspect to the speculation surrounding Verstappen potentially joining Mercedes, fueled by rumors originating from images of Jos Verstappen speaking with Toto Wolff.

The investigation involving Horner has caused significant damage to everyone involved and has posed a threat to the unity of the reigning world champions.

The alignment of allegiances seemed to fluctuate depending on the latest news reports, but the prospect of Verstappen switching to their main rivals would undoubtedly have prompted swift action from Red Bull's leadership.

CEO Oliver Mintzlaff's presence in the Jeddah paddock appeared to prevent Helmut Marko, a close ally of Verstappen, from leaving the team, at least for the time being.
