Jack Miller has characterized aerodynamics as the "final component of the puzzle" in the advancement of MotoGP motorcycles, as engineers persist in maximizing performance within the confines of the existing regulations.

Aerodynamic devices have been increasingly prevalent in MotoGP since Ducati first introduced winglets on its bike in the mid-2010s, prompting other manufacturers to follow suit after witnessing the performance enhancements achieved by the Desmosedici.

While the impact of excessive aerodynamics on racing quality has sparked controversy, 2024 witnessed bike manufacturers pushing the boundaries further by investing more in radical wings and fairings, with Aprilia and KTM leading the charge in innovation.

Miller believes that aerodynamics provide a cost-effective means of enhancing MotoGP bike performance in 2024 and represent the final frontier yet to be fully explored by the five manufacturers competing in the premier class.

"It's the main thing," remarked the KTM rider. "We have dedicated countless years to developing electronics, engines, tires, and other aspects. Now, we are focusing on the last piece of the puzzle that remains to be fully exploited.

"I recently saw a comment from someone at Aprilia stating that it's more cost-effective for them to develop aerodynamics than engines. Well, that rings true. We are reluctant to embark on the arduous process of redeveloping a MotoGP engine; it's a daunting endeavor. Therefore, aerodynamics present an easily implementable solution that can yield significant benefits.

"But where does it end? How far can we push it? That's the question."

Aprilia made waves during pre-season testing by unveiling a dramatically redesigned version of the RS-GP, featuring a prominent rear wing and a new carbon panel on the swingarm.

Aprilia's factory rider, Aleix Espargaro, characterized the increasing reliance on aerodynamics as an integral aspect of the sport, while emphasizing the advantages offered by the marque's 2024 concept.

"We've observed significant changes in our sport," he remarked. "However, you can't control the elements. It's all part of the game.

"I've stated numerous times that personal preference doesn't factor in; we operate within the confines of the rulebook, and it's about being the best. Our bike's aerodynamics are quite impressive, and hopefully, the additional downforce will prove beneficial at Portimao.

He continued, "Everyone has embraced aerodynamics extensively. While our aerodynamics are exceptional, having a strong aerodynamic engineering team ensures the bike maintains significant load in mid-corners without excessive drag on the straight."
