Rojas Declares Retirement from Racing
The 42-year-old Mexican concludes his racing career after a remarkably successful 31-year tenure in the sport, retiring from the track.
Mexican racer Memo Rojas has officially retired from international motorsport at the age of 42, marking the end of his illustrious 31-year driving career. The announcement was made through a video posted on his Instagram page, where he revealed his decision to step away from professional racing.
Despite bidding farewell to active competition, Rojas hinted at staying connected with motorsport in alternative capacities. In his Instagram post, he expressed gratitude for the support and assured that this isn't a permanent goodbye but rather a "see you later." He emphasized his ongoing commitment to the sport through different roles and new projects.
Explaining the reasoning behind his retirement, Rojas shared that he felt he had achieved a significant milestone in his life, prompting him to conclude his time as a professional race car driver. He highlighted the importance of paving the way for newer generations and redirecting his focus to other aspects of life that had been temporarily set aside due to the substantial energy, commitment, and sacrifices required at the highest competitive level.
Rojas, a three-time Rolex 24 Hours winner and four-time Rolex Sports Car Series champion, acknowledged the challenges of making such a decision. He also reflected on his accomplishments, including a Sebring 12 Hours victory in 2014, two European Le Mans Series LMP2 titles in 2017 and 2019, and nine appearances at the prestigious Le Mans race.
Having concluded the 2023 FIA WEC season with Alpine, Rojas remains an integral figure in motorsport, now exploring diverse avenues beyond the racetrack.
