Riccardo Rossi Tops Moto3 Q1 Session, Advances to Q2 at Motegi

Riccardo Rossi emerged as the top performer in the Moto3 Q1 session at the Japanese GP. Consequently, the Italian secured one of the final four spots in the battle for pole position at Motegi.

After the initial flying laps, Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia) led the pack, followed by Scott Ogden (VisionTrack Racing Team/Honda), Mario Aji (Honda Team Asia), and José Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo). However, some riders posted their first lap times later in the session.

Filippo Farioli (Red Bull KTM Tech3) briefly claimed second place, displacing Rueda from the qualifying positions, before having a highside at turn two. Joel Kelso (CFMoto Racing PrüstelGP) took the lead with six minutes remaining, while his teammate Xavi Artigas moved into third.

Despite improved lap times, the top four positions remained the same, with Kelso, Furusato, Artigas, and Farioli holding those spots.

However, the situation changed in the final two minutes when Rossi (SIC58 Squadra Corse/Honda) moved into the lead, and Rueda secured fourth place. Consequently, Artigas missed out on the qualifying zone by a mere 0.039s. The standings remained unchanged until the end, confirming the last four participants in Q2 as Rossi, Kelso, Furusato, and Rueda.
