Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team Heads to Japan for Manufacturer's Home Grand Prix

After the Grand Prix of India on Sunday, the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team has swiftly traveled to Japan for Yamaha's home race, scheduled for this weekend at the Mobility Resort Motegi.

The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team has made the journey from India to Japan for Round 14 of the 2023 MotoGP World Championship. This race holds special significance as it is the manufacturer's home GP, and Fabio Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli are determined to deliver a strong performance.

Quartararo arrives at the Mobility Resort Motegi after a podium finish at the Indian GP and currently holds 11th place in the championship standings. As a fan of the Japanese track, he aims to secure valuable points this weekend. Quartararo has participated in only two MotoGP class races at Motegi, earning a podium with a second-place finish in 2019 and an eighth-place finish in 2022.

Having started the Asian leg of the championship last week, Morbidelli is looking forward to the intense but rewarding overseas race schedule. The passionate Japanese fans will provide extra motivation for the Italian rider. Morbidelli is currently 12th in the championship standings and is determined to improve upon his 14th-place finish in Japan from the previous year. He has competed in three premier class races at this track, with his highest result being sixth place in 2019. In the Moto2 class in 2016, Morbido secured a podium finish with third place at Motegi.

To kick off the race weekend on a positive note, Quartararo and Morbidelli, along with Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP Test Team rider Cal Crutchlow, who is participating as a wild-card entry with the YAMALUBE RS4GP Racing Team this weekend, visited the Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. headquarters and Yamaha factory in Iwata, Japan. They took a tour of the facilities and signed autographs for the enthusiastic Yamaha employees.

The Motegi circuit was originally constructed in 1997 for testing purposes. MotoGP first visited the track in 1999 for the Japanese Grand Prix, and it has been a prominent venue for motorsports fans ever since. In 2004, Motegi replaced the Suzuka Circuit on the MotoGP calendar to host the Japanese Grand Prix once more, and it has retained this status. The 4.8km track is renowned for its challenging layout, featuring six left and eight right corners, as well as various hard-braking and acceleration zones.

The Grand Prix of Japan will take place in the GMT +9 time zone. FP1 is scheduled for Friday from 10:45 to 11:30 local track time, followed by Practice from 15:00 to 16:00. On Saturday, FP2 will run from 10:10 to 10:40, and the qualifying sessions will take place from 10:50 to 11:30, followed by the Sprint starting at 15:00. On Sunday, Warm Up is set for 10:40 to 10:50, and the Race is scheduled to begin at 15:00.
