McConnell Secures a Second Victory at the Extreme E Island X Prix
Jamaican rallycross sensation Fraser McConnell, along with his X44 Vida Carbon Racing Team, secured the top spot on the podium in the eighth round of the Extreme E Championships held in Sardinia, Italy.
Taking the lead for his team, Fraser McConnell executed a clever maneuver by taking a wide line into the first turn, allowing him to smoothly pass Johan Kristoffersson and Sebastien Loeb, who were jostling for position in the center of the track.
McConnell's clean start proved to be the pivotal moment as Team X44 maintained a dominant position throughout the round. His teammate, Cristina Gutierrez, took over the wheel during the mid-race driver change and steered the car to a victory with a comfortable lead of 5.813 seconds over Mikaela Ahlin-Kottulinsky.
This victory marks the team's second triumph in season three and their first win at an Island X Prix.
The 25-year-old McConnell expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance, stating, "It's amazing to achieve a result like this. Everyone has put in a tremendous effort to ensure the car is in impeccable condition before each round. Cristina and I remained focused and delivered four strong, flawless laps in the final. We left no stone unturned in seeking any advantage and discovering strategies to outpace the competition. Once again, the team's relentless dedication ensured the car was in peak form."
Currently, the duo occupies the fifth position in the championship standings with a total of 87 points. The Extreme E season will conclude with the final leg in Antofagasta, Chile, scheduled for December 2 and 3.
McConnell concluded, "The championship boasts immense competitiveness with numerous world-class drivers, so securing the top spot for round eight and representing Lewis Hamilton's team is an incredible feeling. We head into Chile with our heads held high, hoping for more success."
