Hamilton Advocates for Artificial Intelligence Intervention Following Verstappen's Leniency

 

Lewis Hamilton is considering the possibility of employing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to handle Formula 1 penalties more efficiently in comparison to traditional stewards.

During the recent Singapore Grand Prix, Max Verstappen of Red Bull managed to avoid a grid penalty despite being summoned by stewards for three instances of impeding incidents during qualifying. His obstruction of Yuki Tsunoda from AlphaTauri, particularly between Turns 3 and 4, garnered significant scrutiny. However, he received only a reprimand from the stewards.

This decision appeared to deviate from the handling of previous impeding incidents in the 2023 season, with one steward acknowledging that an error had occurred during the Japan race. Consequently, the FIA has determined that this ruling against Verstappen will essentially be nullified and not taken into account.

Even Verstappen himself conceded that his involvement in the incident with Tsunoda was regrettable, stating, "That was not good. I didn't see him because I was on the radio discussing what the issue was with the car, and then I didn't receive a call-up until he was essentially behind me."

Furthermore, Red Bull was fined by the FIA for its role in the incident.
